Painting the Apocalypse

A look at some of the concept sketches for a work in progress. The painting is now (unfortunately!?!) several years in the making and no where near complete. However it will be the centerpiece of the Tornado Series and perhaps my most important work to date.

Inspiration for the painting comes from a vivid and incredibly startling dream I had envisioning the apocalypse. While the visions of great cities a blaze and the atmosphere becoming one gigantic storm cell are certainly memorable, it was the detailed, slow motion rendering of complete particle destruction at the molecular level of structures, objects, and living things that I found to be profound.

Proper [sic] motivation to make art in this day and age, in a world gone mad.
